Excursions on the oldest sailboat on lake garda.

A LADY WITH A GREAT HISTORY

Veronica was designed and built in two years, between 1926 and 1927, by several blacksmiths of Peschiera del Garda. She was part of a fl eet of over one hundred “barges” used for the transportation of persons and goods (oil, wine and livestock), which performed a shuttle service between Riva del Garda and Desenzano, at a time when there were still no roads around Lake Garda. The boat was equipped with lugsails and had two masts with trapezoidal sails (like fore-and-aft sails) and a large jib sail at the prow, on an extremely long bowsprit (jib boom). These boats were also used for regattas, the most celebrated of which took place on July 6th, 1930, which was organized in Riva del Garda by Gabriele D’Annunzio.
When the roads were built around Lake Garda after 1930, this type of transportation was no longer advantageous and progressively fell into disuse. The war did the rest and Veronica was abandoned in the Harbor of Toscolano. In August of 2001 only two remaining specimens of the original fl eet of “Lake barges” had survived and Veronica, which had by then become an elderly, dilapidated and rusty hull, was restored with immense enthusiasm and passion and was equipped with impeccable style and charm for cruises. She was then re-baptized “Siora Veronica” (Siora in the local dialect means “Lady”).

GONE WITH THE WIND!

Siora Veronica is waiting for you in the Harbor of Malcesine to allow you to experience a unique sensation; once outside the Harbor, with the sails raised, the engine is shut off and you feel the gusto of yesteryear cruises, the pleasure of being cradled in silence by the waves, in the beautiful backdrop of Lake Garda.
You can embark daily from the Harbor of Malcesine, even without booking in advance, for short excursions of 45 minutes, which depart in the morning and afternoon; mini-cruises of half a day or a full day are also organized once per week, to visit the most interesting and characteristic places on the lake (the Isle of Lake Garda, Brasa Falls, Campione, San Vigilio…) and stop at the harbors of Limone, Bogliaco, Gargnano and Garda.
The routes are almost never defi ned precisely because they depend on the conditions of the wind and the lake.
Siora Veronica is also available for business meetings or groups of up to 50 people, for customized programs, as well as for newlyweds who have decided to crown the most beautiful day of their lives on Lake Garda and want to give a touch of exclusiveness to their celebration.
Nothing remains but to invite you on our venerable lady, in the awareness that you will be stricken by her great charm, following her motto: “Gone with the wind!”
